Sheriff Says Jailer Let Man He Knew Avoid A Parole Violation Charge By Being Booked Under False Name
A Ware County jailer was arrested Monday for booking his girlfriend's relative into the local jail under a false name last month to help him avoid violation of parole charges, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Royal said jailer Tommy Derek Hodge, 20, of Waycross, was charged Monday with "violation of his oath of office as a public officer,".
Hodge had been on suspension at the time of his arrest, and that on June 19 a drug possession suspect who was wanted for parole violation, Brandon Corley, gave a false name to arresting officers and was booked into the jail under the false name.
An investigation revealed that Hodge knew Corley (a relative of Hodge's girlfriend), knew he was wanted for violation of parole and allowed him to register under the name of Samuel Franklin Corley.

Important Notice to Homeowners Regarding 2009 Property Taxes
Area Tax Commissioners say homeowners should brace themselves for additional property taxes this year and the next. The state homestead tax relief grant that funded an increased homestead exemption for homeowners for the last several years will not be available this year. Declining state revenues during the current recession mean there is no money for the State to give the tax relief to homeowners said Georgia Tax Commissioners. This means a property tax increase of $200 to $300 on the 2009 tax bills for many Georgia Homeowners. The grant appropriated by the General Assembly and the Governor for the last several years to counties, cities and schools had give tax relief to homeowners in the form of a credit on their tax bills. According to legislation passed this year (House Bill 143), the grant will only be made available in the future if state revenues grow at least 3% plus the rate of inflation.
